The Episcopal Center for Children is located in the northern residential section of Washington, D.C. It is a non-profit, non-denominational institution for emotionally challenged children with a professional faculty of thirty-five. The student body consists of 60 children between the ages of five and twelve. We wish to recruit a media specialist/librarian for our one year old media center. Job description follows.

Responsible for implementing an elementary school program for a special type of student which inspires a love of reading, promotes the integration of library studies into the children’s work, offers a wide variety of material at age-appropriate reading levels and provides for an attractive, educationally stimulating environment.
Responsible for further development and maintenance of the collection including ordering, technical processing and classifying books under the bar code system.
Works closely with other teachers to provide needed resources.
Coordinates all library purchases and presents suggestions regarding necessary supplies and equipment to the supervisory staff member.
Instructs students and staff in the use of the library and computers; establishes children’s programs and story hours, utilizing volunteers as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A master’s degree in library science and/or information science from an accredited institution.
Directed field experience in a school library/media center with an experienced media specialist or two years of successful teaching or one year of library experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree in Library Science is required and
a
minimum of one year's experience in the 1410 (Librarian) series at the
CS-11
grade level or equivalent experience. The applicant's work experience
must
have been of a quality and scope sufficient to enable him/her to
perform
satisfactorily assignments typical of the position. Emphasis is placed
on
administrative skills, including the ability to organize and develop
effective programs of library service to older adults. Applicants must
present a combination of experience, education, skills,
self-development,
and experience which demonstrates the capacity to perform the duties of
the
position. In addition, education and/or experience, which have
provided
professional knowledge in the area of service to older adults, are
desirable. Must posses a current driver's license, as the incumbent
must be
able to operate the library's light vehicle (bookmobile).

FUNCTIONS: Under the general supervision of the Chief, Adaptive
Services,
the incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of
an
outreach program to provide library services to older adults, in the
District of Columbia; uses professional criteria and experienced
judgement
in assembling a collection of materials in all formats for this purpose
in
accordance with readers' interests and needs; develops readers
relationships
in the aging community including special programs for the older adults
through the bookmobile service. Supervises delivery and bookmobile
staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
