JOB TITLE: Assistant Archivist for African American Episcopal Historical Collection (20 hours per week, week-day, day-time, schedule negotiable). The African American Episcopal Historical Collection is a joint project of Virginia Theological Seminary and the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church.
LOCATION: Bishop Payne Library, Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA
DESCRIPTION: Bishop Payne Library, Virginia Theological Seminary, seeks a part-time assistant archivist to work 20 hours per week to job-share with existing part-time assistant archivist. Under the supervision of the Archivist, the assistant archivists receive, accession, organize, process, & describe the archival materials of the AAEHC; develop and maintain inventories and finding aids for the collection; collaborate with Technical Services to produce MARC bibliographic records and finding aids of archival collections for the library catalog; provide AAEHC archives reference services to patrons; and prepare statistics and reports.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in archives management, library science or museum studies preferred; proficiency with Microsoft Word and computer databases required; knowledge of African American history or historiography preferred; archival training or experience highly desirable; familiarity with the Episcopal Church desirable; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and ability to work effectively with staff and patrons required; must be able to lift and move archival boxes up to 20 pounds. Racial/ethnic minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
PAY: Hourly wage commensurate with education and experience.
