ASIL Library and Information Services

Information Specialist - ASIL Library and Information Services

Candidate will use InMagic for bibliographic database entry, process materials for the law collection, prepare periodicals listings and bibliographies, process interlibrary loans, and respond to reference requests. May assist with production of research guides and other electronic resources. Effective computer skills for accurate data entry, use of specialized library software, and Microsoft Word required. Availability: 8-15 hours per week.

The ASIL Library is open to the public and provides information services to the local international law community and electronically to a global audience of international lawyers and researchers. The focus of the Society’s 20,000-volume library collection is on resources of public and private international law. Additional information resources include Electronic Information System for International Law (EISIL), the ASIL Guide to Electronic Resources for International Law (ERG), the ASIL Publications Index (ASILEX), and bibliographies on various topics of international law. The ASIL Library is open M-F, 8:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Database of Women Artists Web Access Project Internships

The Library and Research Center at the National Museum of Women in the Arts is offering Internships to assist with the Database of Women Artists Web Access Project. This is an opportunity for college and graduate students considering a career in museums, libraries or new media to gain real-world experience working on an innovative project that aims to increase accessibility via the internet to the museum’s archival resources. Over the course of the internship, interns can expect to gain valuable knowledge about women artists, both contemporary and historical; increase skills in Information Technology and research; and experience working as part of a dynamic project team. Interns will work on the Database of Women Artists Web Access Project. Activities include but are not limited to:

Assisting with the research of 300 core women artists from NMWA’s permanent collection. Assisting with data/content analysis of the archival collection: expanding information through research; contacting artists to update biographical information as appropriate; fact-checking; editing and collating information. Assisting with the creation and entry of content into the new database, following cataloguing standards, and undertaking artist authority work.

Candidates for internships must have completed their sophomore year of undergraduate study, and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. We encourage applications from students studying art history and/or library science and who have strong computer skills, enjoy working independently and undertaking research, are detail-oriented, and who have an interest in women\r\nartists/women’s issues.

American University Library

American University Library is currently seeking a Serials/Periodicals Specialist.

This position is responsible for processing and tracking receipt of 2,750 print periodical subscriptions. By accurately maintaining the check-in database and managing the claims operation, this position assures that the Library?s periodicals purchases are received and available for researchers. This position also provides supervisory support of 25 - 30 part time assistants at the Periodicals public service desk. Pay is $15.38 - $16.49 per hour (35-hour work week.)

Requirements: At least two years of college. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential. One year supervisory experience. Prior customer service experience in a professional setting. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of Voyager and/or other automated library systems; intermediate computer skills, including Excel and Access. The Library Assistant provides administrative support to the Director and staff of the Library and Research Center. The Library Assistant also will be expected to help with other special projects as needed.

Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in humanities field
General knowledge of art history. Degree or significant coursework in art history preferred
At least one year related work experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, service orientation, and attention to detail
Strong computer skills and experience with library management systems (experience with Voyager preferred) and other database systems such as MS Access and Excel
Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language is a plus
